Four routes, chosen with care

Hiking around Frigiliana

Four routes worth planning

A hiking day from Frigiliana: the loop to Cruz de Pinto with views over village and sea, the Río Higuerón with its cahorros, the long climb up El Fuerte or the GR 249 stage to Cómpeta. Four very different days; start, track and navigation come from the official hiking guide and from Komoot.

Casa AMARA stands in the middle of the village; to the starting points you walk a few minutes through the lanes or drive a short way.

Two routes close to the village

Cruz de Pinto is the open panoramic walk; the Higuerón runs through changing riverbed terrain. For both, the linked track is more exact than any description from memory — take it with you.

Cruz de Pinto circuit

3 hrs · official route 5.8 km · official route Easy in the official listing; footing still matters

Why choose it: Open slopes, the small shrine and views back to village and coast.

Choose Cruz de Pinto when you want a defined circuit and broad views without committing to a summit day. The official route listing supplies the baseline; use the current Komoot route for the exact line and any route notices. Open ground means sun and wind are part of the decision.

Río Higuerón and the Cahorros

2.5 hrs · official Cahorros route 4.6 km · official Cahorros route Easy in the official listing; conditions can change

Why choose it: A riverbed route into narrow rock passages close to Frigiliana.

The Higuerón is the gorge route straight from the village: a riverbed with water, loose stone and stretches that look different after rain. The linked track takes you through.

A summit and a full mountain stage

El Fuerte is the complete summit route. GR 249 Stage 6 is a linear day across the mountains to Cómpeta. Both demand an early decision based on weather, fitness and the return plan.

El Fuerte summit

4 hrs · official route 631–633 m · official route 7.4 km · official route Moderate officially; steep and rocky in practice

Why choose it: The full ascent above Frigiliana to a 360-degree summit panorama.

The full summit route: start at Plaza del Ingenio, through the old town and out into open, rocky terrain. A day for clear weather and an early start.

GR 249 · Stage 6: Frigiliana to Cómpeta

Full day · linear stage 23.7 km · linked Komoot stage Challenging

Why choose it: A committed mountain crossing to Cómpeta, with the return arranged first.

Stage 6 is the one route here that does not bring you back to Frigiliana. It crosses mountain terrain to Cómpeta, so arrange the return before departure and treat the official topoguide as the authority for the stage. Komoot can carry the track on your device; it does not replace weather judgment or the official route information.

Current closure

Río Chíllar is not a route recommendation

According to the council, the Río Chíllar near Nerja remains closed; the river walk is therefore off.

Choose what suits the day

Start with the weather

Use the climate pattern to choose the season, then use AEMET for the actual route day. Heat changes the start time on Cruz de Pinto, El Fuerte and GR 249; recent rain and riverbed conditions are an additional decision for the Higuerón.

Compare climate and open AEMET

Carry the route

Save the chosen track before setting out. The route then stays clear even without reliable mobile coverage.

Water and footwear

Take enough water and shoes suited to the ground. Turn back if heat, rain or the terrain no longer fits the plan.

Connect the hike to the rest of the stay

Once the route choice is clear, these are the next useful questions.

Where do you come back to?

After four hours on the mountain the outdoor shower on your own terrace is the best part of the day. Lounis, Zaid and Maha each have one, with a hammock and two loungers.

What is waiting in the apartments

When do you want to walk?

Spring and autumn are the best time for the long routes, because shade stops being the deciding factor. What is free in your weeks comes with dates and a total price.

Where will you eat afterwards?

After four hours uphill nobody picks a restaurant well. That is why we settle on one before setting off.

Why use Frigiliana as the base?

Place the village, coast and Sierra in one practical orientation before planning the rest of the stay.
